Why Detoxify
The average American is exposed to more toxins through water and air pollution, household cleaning supplies, pesticides, disinfectants, and food additives than ever before in human history. We ingest new chemicals, use more drugs, eat more sugar and refined foods, and daily abuse ourselves with various stimulants and sedatives. Each year, an average American consumes more than 150 lbs. of sugar and 566 cans of soft drinks. In addition, he/she consumes more than fifty pounds of artificial sweeteners per year, 45 large bags of potato chips, 120 orders of French fries, 190 candy bars and 150 slices of pizza.
All of this is harmful to our well-being and our feeling of wellness. Toxins weaken our immune systems and make us susceptible to various illnesses such as cancer, cardiovascular illnesses, arthritis, allergies, obesity, skin problems, migraines, insomnia, diabetes, fatigue, pains, circulatory problems, coughs, gastrointestinal problems, psychological disorders, birth defects, lupus, fibromyalgia, candidiasis and chronic fatigue syndrome. The World Health Organization research implicates environmental chemicals in 60 to 80 percent of all cancers!
Our bodies detoxify naturally every day, eliminating or neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph and skin. But our systems and organs become often completely overloaded, thus many unwanted substances are stored in our tissues, leading to toxicity.
Toxicity occurs in our body when we take in more than we can utilize and eliminate. Toxins may produce an immediate or rapid onset of symptoms, as many pesticides and some drugs do; possibly, even more commonly, it may cause some long-term negative effect, such as asbestos exposure leading to lung cancer.

Toxin Found in American Reach Alarming Levels
Most Americans believe the government protects them against harmful chemicals. But, in the past 50 years, more than 75,000 chemicals have been released into the environment, including pesticides, solvents, preservatives, fuel additives and drugs. What happens as our bodies absorb them? How can we protect ourselves from their potentially toxic effects?
A 2003 study released by a New York hospital, looked at the prevalence of low levels of industrial and agricultural chemicals in American’s bodies.
Mt. Sinai Hospital tested for 210 chemicals in the bodies of eight environmental and health activists, plus journalist Bill Moyers. In those nine people, 167 different industrial and agricultural chemicals were found. They included heavy metals, phosphate and chlorine compounds from insecticides, dioxins and PCBs – all which have been linked to cancers, nervous system malfunctions and birth defects.
Another study conducted by Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York detected 287 commercial chemicals, pesticides, and pollutants in the umbilical cord blood from 10 newborn infants, randomly selected by the Red Cross from U.S. hospitals.
The study confirms that even before birth, a child is exposed to hundreds of chemical compounds, many of which could harm that child's health and development. This is disturbing because scientific studies and empirical evidence have repeatedly shown that pre-natal and early childhood chemical exposures can be substantially more harmful than exposures that occur later in life.
Daily Sources of Toxins
Ten DAILY sources of chemicals and toxins may include:
1. Processed foods. 7800+ man-made chemicals and non-nutritive substances are approved for use in food processing.
2. Exposure to detergents, solvents, cleaning fluids, adhesives and fumes from paint, gasoline and cars.
3. Agricultural chemicals. Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and growth hormones are commonly used in crop production.
4. Hormones, steroids and antibiotics. Chickens, cows and pigs are routinely injected with growth hormones and antibiotics.
5. Insecticides. To comply with health department regulations, most grocery stores in America is equipped with Automatic Insecticide Dispensers that spray fruits and vegetables with insecticide just to keep bugs away!
6. Chemicals formed in the cooking of food. Burning or charring food, especially meat, causes the formation of many different unwelcome chemicals.
7. Air pollution.
8. Over-chlorinated and fluoridated water.
9. Medications.
10. Contaminated water.
We are exposed to more toxins in one year than our grandparents were exposed to in their entire life! According to the medical reference book, two of the main causes of health issues are stress and chemicals.
